That does help me understand a bit. Can't really argue with it though, the overwhelming consensus seems to be that 'Holocene' is where it's at.

I'm sitting here in my living room, listening to this album again, with the addition of a Cabernet, and I'm noticing that I am experiencing the album in a completely different way than I did the first time I heard it. The first time, I was driving through some countryside at sunset-ish, and for that reason, I can see why "Holocene" has its appeal. If you consider the lyrics alongside the rhythmic climb from tranquil to an almost downtrodden exasperation, the song really hits that part of you that feels insignificant, when facing a lonely stretch of highway or just the demands of day-to-day life. That one line, "I was not magnificent" always touches that painful little spot, and when I listen to it that way, it lessens the burden of realizing my insignificance. Anyway, I thought maybe that perspective might help you enjoy the song more, or at least understand its widespread popularity.
